Boost for struggling FC Likhopo

MASERU - The Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) on Wednesday this week handed over two playing kits to FC Likhopo at a function held at the Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena. This came as a lifesaver for the struggling FC Likhopo ahead of the new Econet Premier League (EPL) season, which kicks off tomorrow.

The attire includes, among others, tracksuits and bibs. PLMC managed to put the kits together through sponsorship from Metropolitan Lesotho to the tune of M360 000. FC Likhopo are just the first club to get the playing kit which is meant for all struggling teams in the Lesotho’s top-flight league.

Majantja, Swallows, Galaxy, Sefotha-fotha and Liphakoe will also get the playing kit from PLMC. “Other teams that were also supposed to get a new playing kit are: Majantja, Swallows, Galaxy, Sefotha-fotha and Liphakoe,” said the new PLMC chairman, Ikrarabele Sello.

“And you can see that those are the teams which are struggling to find sponsorship.” Sello said the other five teams would soon get their playing attire from outside the country as it had already been ordered. He further said: “We have signed a contract with Metropolitan that they will continue lending a helping hand in sponsoring the EPL clubs, and as PLMC we have only focused on the clubs that are struggling to get sponsors.”

Speaking at the same function, Spinare Lenkoe from Metropolitan said his company got moral support from Basotho and, as a result, they gave back to the community. “As a result, we want to give something in return to thank them. So we have decided to give this amount of money to PLMC as sponsorship to the struggling teams in the country,” Lenkoe said.

He further said: “We have engaged PLMC to give us the teams which do not have technical sponsorships. Then we gave them money (M60 000 each) to see what they can do with it, hence why we are giving this new kit today to Likhopo FC. “Other teams are still waiting for their orders, and we couldn’t wait for them.”

FC Likhopo spokesperson Katleho Mahamo thanked PLMC and Metropolitan for the support, saying they had been using only one kit for a very long time. One of their new playing kits is red which is their traditional colour while the other is blue. “The red kit will be for home matches and the blue one for away games. We are also very thankful for the tracksuits and we will wear them when we are play away from home,” he said.
