MASERU – Police are investigating a possible ritual murder case of a 50-year-old Nazareta man whose mutilated body was found in his house on Tuesday by a relative. Police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said the deceased who lived alone was last seen alive on New Year’s Day by members of his family.
Mopeli said eight days later when the man could not be seen anywhere, his concerned aunt went to his home in Ha Molengoane and found him dead on his bed. A quick inspection of the body, he said, revealed that some parts including the nose, right eye, part of the skin from the left foot along with some toes had been removed and were missing.
He said although further investigations and a post-mortem will determine the cause of death, police however suspect the man was killed for ritual purposes. Mopeli has therefore appealed to members of the public to assist police with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators whose identity remain unknown.
