Former PS and ABC stalwart passes away

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Malefetsane Nchaka last night, a former Principal Secretary, community leader and dedicated member of the opposition All Basotho Convention (ABC).

These developments were confirmed to Public Eye this morning by ABC Secretary General, Thebe Mokoatle, who indicated that Nchaka has been struggling with prostrate cancer for some time – leading to his death last night at around 2300hrs.

According to an ABC statement released in Maseru following Nchaka’s demise, the former PS served the nation with commitment throughout a long career in public administration, including as PS in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The statement notes Nchaka’s active engagement in the country’s democratic process, having contested as the ABC candidate for Thaba-Putsoa Constituency in the 2022 National Assembly elections.

In recent years though, his name appeared in connection with legal proceedings involving allegations of fraud and theft, a matter that is still before the courts at the time of his passing.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the ABC community. May his soul rest in peace.
