MASERU – The August Monthly Mug takes place this Sunday after it was postponed last weekend. The Maseru Golf Club monthly competition was postponed since some of the club’s golfers were invited for the Kgalagadi Golf Classic in Botswana at the same weekend. The tournament takes place every first Sunday of every month. Maseru Golf Club captain, Thabang Khabo, confirmed that the competition will take place this Sunday at the Maseru Golf Course.

Khabo said as usual, they were expecting about 40 golfers to compete for the August title. “The Monthly Mug is going to take place this weekend,” said Khabo in an interview with Public Eye on Tuesday. “Normally, the tournament is competed for by about 40 golfers and of course we are still expecting the same number for this upcoming Monthly Mug.” Khabo said they were expecting very high competition for the August Monthly Mug.

“The competition is always high because everyone wants to win and we are expecting the same competition for the August Monthly Mug this weekend,” Khabo said. The defending champion of the Monthly Mug is Letlafuoa Molapo, after the winning July Monthly Mug. Meanwhile, Lesotho golfers did not shine at the Kgalagadi Golf Classic last weekend. According to both Khabo and one member of the Maseru Golf Club, Hasa Lelimo, none of the Lesotho golfers was impressive in Botswana.

“They have not performed well,” said Khabo. “Our highest golfer at the competition only managed to make it into the top 10 and that is Itumeleng Khubetsoana.” Likewise, Lelimo also said: “We have not performed well. Only Khubetsoana made it into the Top 10.” This paper has found out that Lesotho golfers who were invited for the Botswana golf tourney were ten. Lelimo is one of the Maseru Golf Club members who were in Botswana to watch the tournament live. Kgalagadi Golf Classic is one of Botswana’s biggest golf events.
