MASERU – Victor Galeboe from North West in South Africa, whose designs are inspired by Mother Nature, was one of the celebrated experienced designers at the King Moshoeshoe International Fashion Show last Saturday. The 33-year-old is a fashion designer by profession, who designs both male and female wear, including ladies’ lingerie and male underwear. His love and interest for fashion started at the age of 15 but he only became fully engaged in it in 2010 when he was 22.

In an interview with Life&Style he said his collection on Saturday was inspired by nature as a whole, like the beautiful colours that nature provides. He showcased male and female wear some of which was made of African print. Victor thinks fashion designers from Lesotho are very talented and know what fashion is even though their models still need a bit of training and monitoring.

“The King Moshoeshoe International Fashion Show is one of the most important platforms for young and upcoming fashion designers to come and show the entire world their vision in fashion while growing their brands,” he says. Victor, who has showcased his work in almost all the provinces of South Africa, has also showcased at the Mozambique Fancy Fashion Week.

He has dressed celebrities like Cornet Mamabolo, T Boss from television soapie Skeemsam, Vukosi Mashele from the The Queen and Number Number, Faith Sibuye Mrs Universe Africa 2022 finalist, Brazo wa African DJ and influencer Shia Tholo.

The 2022 King Moshoeshoe International Fashion Show was a comprehensive programme for two kinds of fashion designers, emerging designers and experienced designer. The King Moshoeshoe International Fashion Show’s two-day programme kicked off with separate masterclasses by three fashion experts from Lesotho, South Africa and eSwatini. They all shared their extensive knowledge in the sector, empowering both emerging fashion designers and models to understand the dynamics of the fashion sector.

The show is a fairly new event initiated by Film Sector Ground-breakers in 2019 as one of the activities that should be celebrated in remembrance of the 19th century Basotho legendary king, Moshoeshoe 1. It is also scheduled to be part of the much-awaited seven-day long King Moshoeshoe Film Festival which will be launched in March 2023.
