GLOBAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA TO BE MARKED

RETHABILE MOHONO
Maseru – Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer +(LGBTIQ+) community across the country, together with The People’s Matrix will celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBiT) on May 14, 17, 21 and 28, 2022 in four different districts.
The People’s Matrix is a local organisation that advocates for the rights of Lesotho’s LGBTIQ populations.
A press statement indicates that the theme for this year’s annual celebration is “Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights,” explained as a theme under which many forms of advocacy are possible: people’s rights to live their sexualities and to express their gender(s) freely, but also demanding to be secure from physical violence, from conversion so-called “therapies” to forced sterilisation of trans and intersex people.
During IDAHOBiT, the LGBTIQ+ community observes the turbulent history of the LGBTIQ+ civil rights movement, as well as celebrating the courage, strength, and resilience that defines this community.
