MASERU – Two members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) are in police custody suspected of involvement in the September 15 murder of a Chinese businessman in Mafeteng.
According to the LDF Public Affairs Office, in a statement release on Friday, following the heinous murder of the Chinese national the police launched investigations that led to the arrest of the soldiers; developments that were reported to the army Command, which in turn ordered the apprehension of the servicemen.
“Haste measures were taken to apprehend the suspects, and as a matter of procedure, the Military Police handed them over to the LMPS,” the army says.
“The LDF Command pledges to assist the LMPS in every possible way with the ongoing investigations in regard to this unfortunate incident.
The Command further wishes to see all the perpetrators of this barbaric act of criminality apprehended and hauled before the courts of law for the successful dispensation of justice,” the statement reads.
The LDF Command has also urged the nation to remain calm, more especially the Chinese business community resident in the country, their employees and all the people the deceased served diligently, adding that “the LDF remains the hope of the nation, and its constitutional mandate is to protect the territorial sovereignty of Lesotho, her people and their property.”
The army has regretted the murder and others crimes of that nature, and appealed to all peace-loving Basotho to partner with all national security services in the fight against crime in the country.
