Minister ’Maseribane resigns

MASERU – Chief Thesele ’Maseribane today resigned from his ministerial portfolio of Small Business Development and Cooperatives, the office of the prime minister has announced. In the meantime, according to the prime minister’s press office, the Minister of Labour and Employment Moshe Leoma will be the acting minister in the small business ministry.

Chief ’Maseribane was recently deployed to the small business ministry after a tour of duty as the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, a position he was appointed to following a cabinet reshuffle in April 2018. 

In June 2017, he was appointed the Minister of Public Service following the June 2017 snap elections, a position he held until April 2018 when he was transferred to the communications ministry.

He also served as Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation from 2012 to 2014. He was part of the political leaders who formed the first coalition government of the country in 2012 and proved a force of unity, peace and stability amongst his counterparts in the previous administration and the current one.

Chief ’Maseribane is a Member of Parliament representing the Basotho National Party (BNP), a party he served for two terms as leader. He was succeeded in leadership by Machesetsa Mofomobe who was elected at a recent BNP elective conference. Chief Maseribane has previously served as the BNP Youth League president. 

’Maseribane achieved high school and post high school academic credentials with reputable institutions, and was born from the royal family steeped in traditional norms and principles of leadership and governance. He is married and is blessed with three children and three grandchildren.
