MASERU – Senior football national team Likuena’s head coach, Thabo Senong, on Monday named a squad of 31 players to face Benin in back-to-back clashes in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The announcement was made at the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena headquarters in Maseru.
The AFCON qualifiers will resume in November, after the third and fourth round matches which were initially scheduled for March this year, were postponed due to the global outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Likuena restart their campaign away from home to Benin on November 11, before hosting the Beninese in Maseru on November 17.
Likuena held Sierra Leone to a 1-1 draw away from home in their opening match of the qualifiers in November last year, before a 4 – 2 defeat to the Nigerian Super Eagles at home a week later.
Senong has named three goalkeepers for the two Benin matches, namely Ntsane Lichaba from Bantu FC, Sekhoane Moerane from LMPS FC and Monaheng Ramalefane from Matlama FC.
Defenders are Kopano Tseka and Thabang Malane (LCS FC), Nkau Lerotholi and Basia Makepe (LMPS FC), Motlomelo Mkwanazi and Bokang Sello (Bantu FC), Lisema Lebokollane (Matlama) and Rethabile Rasethuntša (Linare).
In the middle of the park Senong has lined up Tšepo Toloane (LDF FC), Thabo Lesaoana, Lehlohonolo Fothoane, Hlompho Kalake and Litšepe Marabe (Bantu FC), Tumelo Ngatane (Manonyane FC), Thabo Matšoele and Jane Thabantšo (Matlama FC), Thabo Seakhoa (LCS FC), Mabuti Potloane (Linare FC),Tumelo Khutlang (Black Leopards FC), Tšoarelo Bereng and Jane Tšotleho.
The team’s striking combinations of Thabang Rabi from LDF FC, Mokone Marabe from Bantu FC, Motebang Sera from Bloemfontein Celtic, in South Africa, Tšepo Seturumane from LMPS FC, Morapeli Lesoetsa, Nkoto Masoabi and Thapelo Tale.
