MASERU – His Majesty King Letsie III tees off at the King’s 25 years Silver Jubilee Golf Tournament at the Maseru Golf Club today. The golf gala is meant to celebrate King Letsie III’s 25 years as the Head of State. According to the organiser of the golf gala, Malephane Malephane, the majority of local corporate managers are expected to play at the golf gala against some of amateur golfers from South Africa.  But Malephane said the King is just going to tee off and not to play.

“The plan was for His Majesty King Letsie III to also play but unfortunately that is not going to be possible; he will only tee off,” said Malephane in an interview with Public Eye. Malephane further said: “We are celebrating his 25th jubilee and all we know that golf is one the porting codes His Majesty plays and enjoys.” The golf gala organiser said a total of 52 amateur golfers are expected to play at the celebration tournament. Among those players is the Maseru Golf Club captain, Thabang Khabo and the women captain, Lebohang Rasethuntša.

“I am excited and looking forward to the game,” said Rasethuntša. “One thing I am very much hopeful of is to win.” The golf gala is part of the continuing celebration of the King’s 25 years’ Silver Jubilee after the mass at the Catholic Church and hiking at Thaba Bosiu. The golf celebration tournament will be concluded with a gala dinner in Maseru tomorrow.
