Pharmacies register roaring demand for supplements
MAMELLO SEBATANE
Maseru – Public Eye reported recently that a lot of Basotho have been buying groceries in bulk since the resurgence of Covid-19 this year now the same panic-buying is being seen at pharmacies where sales of immune boosters, vitamins and other supplements are skyrocketing.
Speaking to Public Eye, a pharmacist working at a local pharmacy along the Main North 1 Road said high demand for such medication and supplements has affected the supply, and some medication will soon run out if the lockdown is prolonged.
“People need to take supplements now more than ever, although it is advised that they do so even under normal circumstances. As a result, the rate at which people are buying supplements now is pushing demand on wholesalers, who in turn put pressure on manufacturers who are at the beginning of the supply chain,” she said.
