AU to deploy security expert to Lesotho
MAMELLO SEBATANE
Maseru – The Commission of the African Union has agreed to deploy an experienced and qualified Security Sector Reform (SSR) Expert to Lesotho for four months as part of efforts to support the country’s National Reforms programme.
This follows Lesotho’s request on 8th January 2021 to the Commission to provide support to the Lesotho National Reforms Authority (NRA) with experienced and qualified Security Sector Reform (SSR) Expert.
The request by Lesotho was based on the 842nd meeting of the Peace and Security Council that was held on 28th August 2020.
This decision goes way back to the 2016 Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union Commission collaboration to provide technical support to Lesotho for Technical Workshop on SSR and preparations for the Constitutional Reforms and implementation roadmap.
