Man illegally keeps a monkey

MASERU – Motiki Jane, 21, who lives at Ha-Matona, Pitseng in Leribe appeared before the magistrate court on March 23, 2021 accused of illegally owning a monkey.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said the defendant was accused of owning a monkey without a license. He was ordered to pay a M2000 fine or spent two years in prison.

He was released after he managed to pay the fine.

Mopeli said it is the duty of the police, together with the Ministry of Tourism to protect the Lesotho’s wildlife therefore police are appealing to every Mosotho to report anyone who may be illegally keeping wild animals which are protected by law.
