MAMELLO SEBATANE
Maseru – Media personnel in Lesotho today received the first round of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine at the Ministry of Health Headquarters as part of the Lesotho Government’s mission to access at least 32 000 people during the first rollout.
Speaking on behalf of the Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI), Nurse ’Mamonaheng Posholi said at least 20 267 people have been vaccinated so far.
She further explained that people with chronic illnesses such as Tuberculosis, Asthma, Cancer, Hypertension and HIV stages 3 and 4 are currently being prioritised after the vaccination of health front line workers.
Asked when the second batch of vaccine is expected, she said it is difficult to say, however she assured the public that arrangements to vaccinate more people against Covid-19 will be made as the vaccine arrives.
“Covid 19 vaccination cards will be issued very soon, hopefully before people receive the second dose of the vaccine,” she said stressing that it important that people are given such cards as proof of vaccination.
