Hat gives rapist away

MASERU – Eighteen-year-old Rethabile Sanya of Ha Matjota in Mokhotlong was found guilty of rape after he allegedly sexually abused an 11-year-old girl from the same village. The event took place on May 23 at 2 o’clock in the morning at the victim’s home where she was sleeping with her two siblings aged eight and three. 

Sanya is said to have crept into the room unnoticed and threatened to stab the victim with a knife if she made any noise. He ran away after committing the crime but left his hat behind which gave him away. Police said the accused was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment without the option to pay bail.
