MASERU – The Lesotho Meteorological Services has reminded the nation that today, June 21, 2021 will be the shortest day with the longest night in the southern hemisphere.
The winter solstice occurs every year on the 21st June as a result of the Southern Hemisphere being tilted away from the sun. On this day, temperatures are expected to drop drastically.
Also called hibernal solstice, winter solstice refers to two moments in the year when the path of the Sun in the sky is farthest south in the Northern Hemisphere (December 21 or 22) and farthest north in the Southern Hemisphere (June 20 or 21).
