Tributes pour in for Malome Vector

MASERU – Tributes are pouring in for the family of the late musician Bokang Moleli, popularly known as Malome Vector, who tragically died in a car crash in South Africa on Wednesday this week while en route to Lesotho. The Lesotho-born singer, songwriter, and rapper began his musical career alongside Ntate Stunna under their record label, Penya Play.
Malome Vector rose to fame in the South African music industry after signing with Ambitiouz Entertainment. He garnered widespread acclaim, earning a South African Music Award for Best Music Video of the Year in 2021 for his collaboration with Miss Pru and Blaq Diamond.
Malome Vector released his debut album, “Karabo,” named after his daughter. The album featured notable artistes such as Blaq Diamond, Intaba Yase Dubai, Sjava, Wave Rhyder, and Ntate Stunna.
Earlier this year, he released his seven-track EP, “1964,” featuring Mlindo the Vocalist and Ntate Stunna, marking his first EP since leaving Ambitiouz Records. Before his breakthrough in South Africa, Malome Vector was well-known in Lesotho for hits like “Ichu” and “Motho Waka.”
His unique style and heartfelt lyrics endeared him to fans both at home and abroad. According to an official statement from SliQ Records and The Whole Time Entertainment, the passing of Malome Vector has been a painful, confusing, and challenging ordeal.
Despite the heavy cloud hanging over them, they reported that another musician who was travelling in the same vehicle, Puleng Phoofolo survived the accident and is currently recovering after being discharged from the hospital.
They emphasised their commitment to honouring and continuing Malome Vector’s musical and business legacy, as he was passionate about creating opportunities for other artists.
Ambitiouz Entertainment, his former record label, mourned his passing in a heartfelt statement, saying, “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of a shining beacon, as Vector’s sun has set.”
The Vector family also issued a statement confirming the tragic loss of their son. They described him as a loving person who dedicated his life to creating music that resonated with many. They requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
Malome Vector’s passing has touched countless souls, with an outpouring of grief on social media as fans and friends share their memories of the beloved artist. His sudden departure at the age of 32 has left a void in the hearts of many.
The fatal accident occurred while Malome Vector, along with four others, was traveling in a Datsun iGo on their way to Lesotho to shoot a music video.
A tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then collided with a truck heading towards Gauteng. The tragic accident claimed the lives of Malome Vector, South African Afro-pop artist Lizwi Wokuqala, and Vector’s videographer Da Mos, bringing the total number of fatalities to three.
Malome Vector leaves behind his daughter, mother, father, and four siblings. His untimely death has not only left a significant impact on his family and friends but also on the music community and fans who admired his talent and spirit.
