Lebohang Lihanela, Inspector English from the Ministry of Education said that only seven schools in Maseru out of the 30 secondary schools offering Literature in English participated in the competition resulting in 15 scripts being evaluated to determine the district’s winner.

She added that Mohale’s Hoek had just three schools offering Literature in English; nine scripts were evaluated to select the best poem for the district.

“We looked at the form of poem, a poem should have a particular structure and every poem has to have a tittle. Second category is poetic language looking at the nature of writing, we wanted learners to show outstanding use of figurative language or rich vocabulary to create vivid images,” Lihanela explained.

She showed that the third category was content, this where the knowledge of the subject matter came in. Knowledge of the Petroleum Fund was paramount.
