Young Stars raise Easter tourney trophy

MASERU – Sekamaneng Young Stars clinched the annual Easter soccer tournament trophy last week. Sponsored by MK-Squared communication the tournament showcased the best talent from Sehlabeng and Teyateyaneng, featuring the top two teams from each region, along with Majara A and B.

With kick off set on April 18 to 21 for the games, the winners were awarded prize money, trophies, jerseys, and medals in recognition of their outstanding performances.

Sekamaneng Young Stars won the tournament, taking home M20 000, gold medals, a jersey, and a trophy.

Blue Birds FC came second, winning M10 000, a jersey, and silver medals.

Koalepe FC came in third, receiving bronze medals, and M6 000 cash prize.

Malimo FC secured fourth place going home M4 000 richer and a jersey.

The remaining four teams each received M2 500.

MK-Squared Sales and Marketing Manager Tsietso Mashoai said that their primary goal for the tournament was to provide a constructive and engaging platform for the youth during Easter holidays, aiming “to divert their attention from crime and drug abuse”.

MK-Squared Managing Director Kopung Kopung highlighted the tournament was designed to give back to the community, nurture young soccer talent, and provide entertainment.

The tournament was aimed to transform lives.

30-minutes breaks were taken that featured religious sermons affiliated to the Easter Holidays.

Kopung noted a negative trend among young people in the community and expressed confidence that the tournament, coupled with gospel messages, could bring positive change.

Meanwhile, Bofihla ‘Neko, a coordinator and organizer of the tournament, added that the tournament was designed to bring young people together, emphasizing soccer’s ability to unite people, foster happiness, and bridge communities.

He explained that soccer provides an outlet, helping individuals to forget their troubles ad stay engaged, especially during the celebration of Jesus Christ’s death. ‘Neko expressed satisfaction that henceforth the tournament will be an annual event for Easter holidays.

This tournament was sponsored by MK-Squared Communications, a company that sells, supplies ICT equipment, and provides maintenance and support services.
