MASERU – Alliance Française de Maseru, in partnership with the French Embassy to South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, is proud to announce the second edition of the Tour de Maseru, a vibrant community cycling event set to take place on Saturday, June 21.

Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this year’s race will bring together approximately 100 cyclists from across Lesotho and beyond, celebrating sportsmanship, cultural exchange and healthy living.

This year’s Tour de Maseru holds special significance as it coincides with the global observance of Olympic and Paralympic Day on June 23, which honours the founding of the modern Olympic Games in 1894.

Recognized worldwide, this day promotes the core values of the Olympic and Paralympic movements: excellence, friendship, respect, determination, inspiration, courage and equality. The Tour de Maseru embodies these principles by fostering community engagement, fitness and international camaraderie through sport.

The event is organized in collaboration with key partners, including Federation of Cycling Lesotho, Lesotho National Olympic Committee, BBL Mountain Bike Club and the United States Embassy in Maseru.

This multi-stakeholder effort underscores the growing enthusiasm for cycling in Lesotho and highlights the power of diplomatic and local partnerships in advancing sports development.

The Tour de Maseru is designed to be accessible and fun for everyone, featuring race categories for:  Competitive adult riders, families and leisure cyclists as well as children and youth. The race will kick off at the Maseru Mall, with routes tailored to different participant levels, ensuring an engaging experience for both seasoned cyclists and first-time riders.

Beyond the competition, the Tour de Maseru serves as a platform for community bonding, youth empowerment and the promotion of sustainable transport. By encouraging cycling as both a sport and a lifestyle, the event aligns with broader goals of health awareness, environmental consciousness, and social cohesion.

As anticipation builds, organizers invite the public to participate, spectate, and join in the festivities, reinforcing Maseru’s growing reputation as a hub for sporting excellence and cultural exchange.
