MASERU – In a significant move to enhance operational efficiency, Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane, who is also the defence minister, handed over two modern buses and four utility vehicles to the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) at the Mejametalana Airwing in Maseru.

The gift, fulfilling a military request, aims to support daily operations and logistical needs of the army. Matekane emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping the LDF, stating: “The defence force is vital for peacekeeping, emergency response, and national service – they deserve the tools to excel.”

He also applauded the LDF’s new Youth Development Department, calling it a critical step in combating youth crime and fostering future leaders.

“You are not just protecting Lesotho, you are building its future,” he remarked.

Urging responsible use, Matekane stressed that the vehicles are national assets. He said “they belong to the Basotho people, who rely on the LDF in times of need.”

Major General Ramanka Mokaloba, Head of Logistics, hailed the donation as a “resounding vote of confidence,” likening the buses to the legendary ‘Kokopshe’a Mara’ fleet. He proposed promoting assigned drivers to Staff Sergeants in recognition of their dedication.

The handover underscores the growing synergy between the government and military, with the vehicles set to improve transport for training and operations nationwide.
