MASERU – Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho, handed over an additional M200 000 cheque to the Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) to financial support the army’s hand to train patriotic youth on Wednesday.
The move is part of its ongoing commitment to empowering Basotho youth and strengthening national development. The LDF itself is hands on with the training of the young people through military boot camps.
The financial hand over brings SEFS’s investment towards the ongoing initiative over the past three years to a total of M450,000 in support of its impactful Youth Development Programme (YDP).
During the handover ceremony held at the Ratjomose Barracks, both the Management of SEFS and the LDF command reaffirmed their partnership in shaping a brighter future for young people across Lesotho.
LDF’s Major General Ramanka Mokaloba, extended heart felt gratitude to SEFS for the generous donation and long-standing support.
“The message is beyond the figure on the cheque. This partnership with Sasai Econet Financial Services is an exemplary model of how public-private collaboration can change lives. With continued support, we can scale this impact even further and instill a renewed sense of purpose and direction among our youth,” General Mokaloba said.
Sasai Econet Financial Services Secretary Lehlonololo Matee emphasized that the hand over is more than just financial support, but an investment in the future of the nation.
“As SEFS, we believe that true national development begins with empowering the youth. The LDF’s Youth Development Programme is a transformative initiative that instills discipline, resilience, leadership, and patriotism in young people. This is precisely the kind of impact-driven work we are proud to support,” Matee said.
Youth bootcamper Mots’oane Nkuru said “We would like to thank LDF for the opportunity they gave us, the potential you see in us and we would wish for this programme to be institutionalized because we have all seen its benefits and impact.”
LDF’s structured programme aligns with SEFS’s broader mandate of driving inclusive growth, social cohesion and sustainable development through strategic partnerships.
The LDF established the Youth Development Programme as a proactive response to the growing challenges faced by young people across Lesotho.
It offers rigorous training that covers physical fitness, life skills, team building, civic education, and entrepreneurship – all designed to equip participants with tools to navigate life and contribute meaningfully to society.
Through the support, SEFS seeks to reinforce its reputation as a socially conscious organization that is not only focused on financial services but is also deeply invested in the development of the communities it serves.
