Lioli FC announces regional arrival

MASERU – Lioli FC has emphatically announced its growing stature on the regional stage following an impressive campaign at the 4 Nations Pre-Season Tournament in Namibia from August 24.
The Lesotho champions held their own against a formidable field, including champions from Angola, Pedro De Luanda Atletico FC and the Democratic Republic of Congo, AS Maniema Union, as well as hosts African Stars.
Their journey to the final was a testament to their tactical discipline and resilience, most notably overcoming AS Maniema Union in a dramatic penalty shootout after a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
Although they ultimately fell short in the final match, the team’s leadership hailed the tournament as an unqualified success. Lioli FC General Manager, Lekhooa Thabaneng, expressed immense pride in the squad’s performance.
“While the final result wasn’t what we wanted, our objective was crystal clear, to prepare rigorously for the upcoming CAF Championships,” stated Thabaneng. “We achieved that and more. Every player, especially our new signings, was given a platform to showcase their skills and integrate into our system against top-tier opposition.”
Thabaneng emphasized that the high-level competition provided invaluable lessons.
“We tested our strategies, identified areas for improvement, and learned a great deal from our opponents. This experience is precisely what we needed ahead of our clash with Orlando Pirates.”
Buoyed by the tournament’s success, Lioli FC has already committed to making it an annual fixture with ambitious expansion plans.
“The format was so beneficial that we have decided to not only continue it but to grow it,” Thabaneng revealed. “We plan to increase the number of teams to eight next year, with a long-term vision of a 16-team tournament. This creates a consistent platform for clubs across the region to develop and compete.”
This forward-thinking ambition is matched by action, as the club recently bolstered its squad with two new signings, demonstrating a clear commitment to strengthening for both domestic dominance and continental challenges.
Lioli FC will look to immediately build on their Namibian momentum this coming weekend when they take on Linare FC at the DiFA Maputsoe Stadium in the Ramela and Associates Soccer Spectacular, providing another crucial opportunity to refine their sharpened strategies.
