Police to get new uniforms
KABELO MASOABI
BEREA – Police Commissioner Holomo Molibeli has confirmed that police officers will soon receive their new uniform.
Molibeli told the media recently that there is a local company that has been engaged to produce uniform for the police.
The police commissioner’s announcement follows a lengthy outcry by both members of the public and the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) over the poor state of the outfit which they argue demoralises the police.
“It is embarrassing when a police officer has to serve the public looking like an orphan. The officers are even forced to fix police shoes on the streets, which indeed is an embarrassment to us,” said Police Constable Peter Mokhamane.
Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane has also appealed to the Police Commissioner to ensure that police officers based in the highlands of Lesotho get outfit appropriate for weather conditions in those areas.
