MASERU – Vodacom Lesotho donated a fully furnished computer lab to Mapetla High school on Tuesday this week. This project in total cost around 350 000 Maloti.

The telecommunications giant Managing Director Phillip Amoateng congratulated the parents for accepting the pay fees with M-pesa initiative including the school for being top users of paying school fees through M-pesa.

He added that in the long-term they would love to see M-pesa replacing cash in the society.

He says in the past before telecommunications were introduced, people used to travel long distances to deliver messages and to pay bills but “today that is a thing of the past since digital financing allows people to pay bills in the comfort of their own homes”.

Amoateng further indicated that recently Vodacom launched a Saving Account which works through M-pesa and advised people to take advantage of saving from their own homes.

Mapetla Principal Peter Rakhapu on behalf of the school said he is grateful to Vodacom for the great gift of change, and thanked the parents again for adhering to the ‘Pay school fees with M-pesa Call’ adding that the school would continue to support Vodacom.
