MASERU – Two security guards resident at Ha ‘Nyane, Mantšonyane, were arrested by the police on suspicion of the theft of diesel fuel used to operate telecommunications company Econet Telecom Lesotho’s (ETL) signal towers in the area.

The towers service the Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong and Qacha’s nek districts.

Lesotho Mounted Police Service deputy spokesperson, Sergeant “Mareabetsoe Mofoka, told a media briefing Monday morning that the stolen fuel is used to run a mega generator to provide power when electricity supply gets cut – and reports indicate that the duo sold the fuel to villagers in the area.

The two men are in police custody and will appear before the Thaba-Tseka Magistrate Court on March 3.
