MASERU – A 22-years-old man appeared before the Quthing Magistrate Court of March 6 accused of raping a 17-years- old girl.
Police reports indicate that on the night of February 29 Khoabane Khobotle entered in the room where the victim was sleeping in the company of her 18-years-old friend; the victim said she only became aware of the assault when she woke up to find a man on top of her – the man threatened to stab her with a knife if she raised alarm.
Police spokesperson, Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, said the victim fortunately managed to fight back but was stabbed in the process, she, however, fought on until she got hold of the knife and stabbed the accused.
“The victim’s friend who was also asleep in the same room woke up and she recognised the accused who managed to flee, though. Both girls were admitted to hospital with minor injuries,” Mopeli said.
The accused remains in police custody awaiting his trial, which is expected to appear to be on March 20.
