Lesotho records first COVID-19 death



MASERU – Lesotho on Wednesday recorded its first COVID-19 related death, according to updates from the Ministry of Health on the same day. The first confirmed COVID-19 case was made public on May 13, only a week after the country lifted its national lockdown that had been in place beginning March 29.

The country has started conducting its own COVID-19 tests in the country at Botšabelo, Lepereng, in Maseru, where 250 specimens are tested daily. As at Wednesday July 8 the country had tested 4 852 specimens, recorded 43 new positive cases to raise the total number of cumulative cases to 134; with nine new recoveries the cumulative number now stands at 20.
