Maseru – Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro has announced the country’s move from orange to red, effectively moving the country into a hard lockdown from Wednesday midnight to 27 January, this as the Covid-19 infection rate has risen to 65 percent.
Majoro said the strict 14-day lockdown will mean complete restriction of movement except to access essential services.
Most consultations at Scott Hospital health center are of patients with flue-like symptoms, a nurse who refused to be identified has told Public Eye.
“In most cases, it turns out many of such patients later turn out to be Covid-19 positive when tests are conducted and it is a very worrying development.
She further indicated that it is vital for people in communities, workplaces and homes to follow all preventative measures against the virus.
She urged Basotho to wear their masks, wash their hands regularly and keep a safe distance from each other.
Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the country, with many prominent workplaces and institutions of higher learning closing amidst fears of the spread of Covid-19.
This evening, the National University of Lesotho added to the growing list of institutions closing. In a memo circulated today, the university said it was closing the Roma campus “for five days to allow for the disinfection of offices, laboratories and halls of residence.”
Staff members were advised to work from home during this period. Lerotholi Polytechnic closed its campus last week after a staff member succumbed to Covid-19.
Nacosec has since moved to drastically limit the number of people attending funerals with the time for proceedings also being reduced to two hours.
