Good news for local vegetable producers
MAMELLO SEBATANE
Maseru – The Ministry of Small business development, Cooperatives and Marketing will effective from 1st February until 28th February 2021 restrict imports of tomatoes, green beans and peppers in effort to facilitate market access for local fresh vegetable producers.
Between 2019 and last year, the same ministry tried hard to promote local producers through the “Buy Lesotho” initiative. As part of the reasons for this, former minister Chalane Phori disclosed imports were costing the country a lot of money, citing for instance that poultry products alone cost Lesotho up to M700 million a year.
