Maseru – A robbery took place yesterday evening at Ha Hoohlo not far from the Maseru Bridge Border gate where about 14 Indian immigrants were raided at gun point in their home. A yet-to-be identified band of robbers stormed a private residence at Ha Hoohlo yesterday and held 14 Indian immigrants at gun point
One of the 14 Indians who preferred to remain anonymous told Public Eye today the incident happened at around 7:30 pm when seven men entered their house with guns, demanding money.
When the victims said they had no money, the assailants beat them up after which the gang searched the house and found M6 000. They went on to take seven cellphones and two cars, a Mazda Demio and a Toyota RunX, then made off with the loot and nothing has been recovered so far. Police spokesperson Supt. Mpiti Mopeli, told Public Eye police had not yet received such a report by midday today.
One of the victims, who also refused to be identified for fear of potential reprisals from the unknown criminals expressed concern that the Indian immigrant community has had it rough from criminals since the Christmas period.
He cited a series of incidents including stabbings and robberies at shops though these have not all been verified with the police. (One of the stolen cars, a RunX pictured. The man pictured was badly beaten up and stabbed in previous attacks)
