Fake cop kidnaps teenage pupil

MASERU – Nkululeko Zwane, 26, who lives at Lisemeng II in Leribe appeared before the magistrate’s court on February 23, 2021 accused of pretending to be a policeman in order to kidnap a teenage school girl from school. 

The suspect was asked to pay M1 000 bail which he paid and he will soon appear before court on March 9, 2021.

Police said on February 19, 2021 at around 14:00pm the suspect arrived at Hlotse Community High School falsely presenting himself as a policeman and produced an ID with King Letsie III’s crown which convinced the teachers. Zwane then explained that he was investigating a case in which the 17-year-old victim is a suspect. 

He therefore asked the teachers to release the girl to go with him to his office to further the investigations.

It was after teachers noticed she was not coming to school that they reported to the nearest police station and police started to search for her. They found the girl living with Zwane and further discovered the ID he had used to convince the teachers was fake.
