MASERU – The Alliance of Democrats (AD) has appealed to Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro to withdraw the recently announced M5 000 tax free allowance for MPs.
In a letter to Majoro, AD said it is unfair that MP have had their monthly salaries increased by 10%, while Treasury failed to do the same for the rest of the civil servants, citing depleted government revenues.
The opposition AD also complained that due to Covid-19 Basotho businesses have been disrupted and some Basotho do not know where their next meal will come from.
AD therefore advised the government to cancel the M5 000 petrol allowance for all MPs, further suggesting the money could be used to help all Basotho affected by Covid-19.
