U-turn on vehicle number plates

Maseru – The Ministry of Transport today announced to the general public that it has stopped the issuing the new number plates following a cabinet decision to replace the Coat-of-Arms on the number places with the Mokorotlo symbol.
Public Eye understands the decision to revert to the Mokorotlo symbol came after pressure from His Majesty King Letsie III’s office.
The office of the the King complained about the use of the Coat-of-Arms on the new number plates, since the coat of arms is the Royal Standard for exclusive official used by the King.
The decision to temporarily suspend this service is to enable the ministry to prepare for the implementation of the said changes which will see the restoration of the Mokorotlo symbol.
