Rotary Club of Maloti assists vulnerable family

Maseru – The Rotary Club of Maloti contributed baby essentials, basic groceries and clothes to the Shea family, a vulnerable household of six, including their new born baby girl in Khubetsoana today. 

This was part of commemorations to mark the Maternal and Child Health month.

The Rotary Club of Maloti is a non-profit making organisation where people of good collaborate to help communities and people who are less fortunate in different areas. 

Rotary Club visited the family then later a nurse was deployed by the club to examine the baby and a good report was given on the health of the baby.

Speaking today, the president of the club Mrs Yande Sikazwe-Mothae said their gift to the Sheas are from the Rotarians who have from the goodness of their hearts sponsored everything from their pockets.

“All these donations you see today are from the Rotarians, we do not get any help from anywhere,” she said adding that they discovered that the family needed at least two types of assistance.

She said the club is proving short-term solutions to their needs, which are groceries and clothes which include the three boys’ school uniform and shoes and baby essentials for little girl.

“We realise that what we have come with today will not last forever so to make the help sustainable, we have engaged the Ministry of Social Development, Lesotho Red Cross and Unicef to see how they can render their assistance to this family as it is their area of expertise,” she explained.

Mothae said with the uniform donations the club hopes the three boys will be able to go back to school and that the parents will ensure that the boys are back in school immediately. 

“…no child must be denied an opportunity for an education because he or she has no shoes; they must be in school and not at home,” he stated.
