Family attacked over alleged witchcraft

MOHALE’S HOEK – A mob of a dozen men aged between 16 and 56 is currently in police custody over cases of attempted murder and arson after two family houses in Mpharane were burnt down to ashes over suspected witchcraft.

According to police spokesperson ’Mareabetsoe Mafoka, a 79-year-old and his 66-year-old wife were set alight by the perpetrators while asleep at night. 

The woman later died from severe burns at a local clinic while her husband was further referred to Nts’ekhe Hospital where he is fighting for his life.

Reports further said a second house of another family was burned down by the same offenders because of their close relationship with the first victims.

The suspects will appear in court soon as investigations continue.
