Maseru – The Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) today told the media that it intents to educate the nation more about its mandate since most people do not know exactly what LCS does apart from keeping prisoners.

LCS Deputy Commissioner Matingoe Phamotse told the press that the department will be hosting weekly educational programmes where they will be teaching people about all duties of LCS. He also highlighted the challenges they are facing as the department which includes overcrowding that makes it hard for their health sector to treat diseases especially airborne diseases. Other challenges LCS faces include lack of organisational resources and problems with its corporate image, to mention a few.

Despite facing a lot of challenges, they have also achieved a lot including zero escape rate for five years now and they have managed to renovate six prisons.
