MASERU – Bantu FC midfield kingpin Lindokuhle Phungulwa is in Bloemfontein, South Africa, where he is expected to spend two months for a knee treatment. The team’s Communications and Marketing Manager (CMM), Bokang Phasumane, said the player left for Bloemfontein last week Wednesday and will be receiving treatment in the city, where he is being hosted by Golden Arrows coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who is also a former Bantu player.

“Phungulwa has already left, he went to Bloemfontein on Wednesday where he will be spending about two months under the watchful eye on a physiotherapist who is treating and assessing his progress everyday,” said Phasumane in an interview with Public Eye on Monday this week. Phungulwa, 28, aggravated a knee injury he sustained a couple of seasons before and fears inside the Bantu camp are that the knee might need to be operated on after Phungulwa was taken for treatment to a number of hospitals without any progress.

“In the beginning we thought his knee injury would need to be operated on after taking him to a number of hospitals for treatment only to find that he will just need concentrated treatment. “And we thank the Golden Arrows coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, for helping us in that regard,” Phasumane said. The Lesotho champions, Phasumane said, will be forking out R1 500 each week for Phungulwa’s treatment. He said Bantu’s management has done everything for the player’s treatment, revealing that the club’ supporters have also come forward and want to contribute.

Phasumane further disclosed that last Sunday the supporters asked the team to disclose how much was needed for the player’s treatment, including his accommodation and food, for all the days he will be spending in South Africa. “It was just yesterday when Bantu supporters asked to know how much is needed for the player’s treatment, and I would like to thank them for the support they always showed to their club.” Phasumane said the supporters want to help their club to cover the costs.

Bantu experienced a similar situation in previous seasons with one of their former players, Tsebang ‘Owen’ Lebata, whose knee injury was operated and Bantu had to raise about M80 000 for the operation. Phungulwa is originally from South Africa. He joined Bantu in the 2017/18 season and won a number of cups including league titles with the Mafeteng giants. Among his individual accolades since playing in the local league, Phungulwa was named player of the month for September in 2017.
