Big reward for Rabale at Sundowns Ladies

MASERU – Mehalalitoe captain Boitumelo ‘Queen’ Rabale is set for a big financial reward with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies after winning the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt last Friday. Rabale was an unused substitute as Sundowns clinched a 2-0 win over Ghanaian side Hasacaas Ladies to be crowned the first-ever champions of the continental Women’s tournament.
Sundowns Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, who took over the reins after his father Patrice was elected CAF President earlier this year, told the South Africa Media that the Sundowns Ladies team deserve a reward after their success in Egypt. “It feels like everyone in this room feels that these ladies should be rewarded, am I corrected? The club has taken a policy to reward these women for the outstanding job that they have done, and this is something that we are taking care of,” Motsepe told a press conference upon the team’s arrival at OR Tambo International Airport.
“It is between us how much they will get and the ladies and technical team, but most definitely, it goes without saying that what they achieved deserves a reward.” Rabale is in line for a treble in her first year with Sundowns with the Tshwane women’s team having already clinched the regional and continental trophies after winning gold earlier at the COSAFA Women’s qualifier for the CAF Champions League.
The Mehalalitoe captain was back in action with Sundowns Ladies on Wednesday in the domestic Hollywoodbets Super League, where they are on the verge of successfully defending their title to complete a historic treble. The 26-year-old become the first Lesotho player to win a CAF tournament after her success in Egypt with Sundowns. The Lesotho Football Association also added their voice as the country celebrated with Rabale on her success with Sundowns and becoming the first Lesotho player to win a CAF tournament.
“The Lesotho Football Association President Advocate Salemane Phafane (KC), on behalf of the football fraternity in the Mountain Kingdom, congratulates Boitumelo ‘Queen’ Rabale and Mamelodi Sundowns on winning the Inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League,” LeFA said in a statement.
“Rabale is not only a national treasure, but a good role model to young female footballers in the country and we wish her more success with Sundowns Ladies having already lifted her second trophy in just her first year playing for the club.”
