PM dismisses PS’s directive suspending fuel for Metsing

Maseru – The Prime Minister’s Office has dismissed as “null and void” a memo circulating today purporting to order the suspension of fuel for Former Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing.
The memo, seen by Public Eye Online, directed to a fuel station and signed by Dr Kamoho Matlama, PS Cabinet – Administration states:
“Your good office is humbly urged to suspend refueling Honourable Mothetjoa Metsing’s following vehicles; 1. A7885 Toyota Hilux, 2. X1932 Toyota Land Cruiser, and 3. X4741 Toyota Lexus.”
The memo concludes by stating that the fuel station would be advised “when the proper arrangements are normalized.”
Buta Moseme, Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro’s press attache later today issued a statement dismissing the PS’s memo adding “Hon Metsing will continue to enjoy his full benefits as permitted by law. The Office regrets the angst this misstep has caused.”
This directive seems to be part of the unfolding saga which began last week when the Lesotho Congress for Democracy leader failed to show up at the courts where he was expected to appear alongside Movement for Economic Change (MEC) leader, Selibe Mochoboroane to face a raft of charges.
The two politicians were supposed to be joined for prosecution with five incarcerated soldiers accused, among other charges, of treason and the 2014 murder of police Sub Inspector Mokheseng Ramahloko.
Only Mochoboroane presented himself before Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane on Monday and he was read the charges he faces, with the judge issuing a warrant for Metsing’s arrest.
Metsing’s lawyer, Advocate Motiea Teele, told the court he had no idea about the whereabouts of his client.
Subsequently Public Eye heard from Deputy Commissioner of Police – Criminal Investigations Department, Beleme Lebajoa, that the police had located Metsing and had been in communication with him towards the end of last week.
Lebajoa said the fugitive leader was made aware of the warrant issued for his arrest and advised him to present himself at the police headquarters immediately.
He promised to comply.
