MASERU – Dr Moeketsi Majoro has relinquished his position as deputy leader of the All Basotho Convention (ABC).
The resignation follows the election of Nkaku Kabi as the party leader in a contest in the ABC’s conference last weekend in Maseru. Kabi was elected by 723 votes to Majoro’s 609 last Saturday.
These developments have been confirmed ABC Secretary General, Lebohang Hlaele, to the local media today. Hlaele said he received Majoro’s resignation on Sunday after he was defeated by Kabi in the run for the leadership position.
Dr Majoro, who is the country’s incumbent prime minister, was appointed deputy leader of the ABC after the position was vacated by Professor Nqosa Mahao who left the ABC to lead his own new political outfit, the Basotho Action Party.
Majoro became prime minister in May 2020 after then premier and ABC leader, Motsoahae Thabane, was forced to resign by stalwarts in a long-drawn-out internal battle.
