Maseru men ready to join GBV battle

MASERU – Mots’eeo Football Club celebrated its fifth anniversary at an event graced by horse racing entertainment as part of efforts to fight Gender Based Violence at Maseru Race Course yesterday.

Mots’eeo FC is a non-profit making organisation that uses football to reach out to underprivileged women and children in order to empower and build strong leadership skills through football.

Founder and President of Mots’eeo FC, Mapulane Phohleli, said they want Mots’eeo FC to go global and, as women, they are working together to fight Gender Based Violence.

“We have visitors from abroad and getting support from the Lesotho Horse Racing Association is amazing and we are willing to work together to keep children and men off the street and domestic violence in order to fight Gender Based Violence,” said Phohleli.

Lesotho Horse Racing Association Public Relations Officer Mojaki Rannakoe said they came to support Mots’eeo FC in the fight Gender Based Violence, adding he believed that having more men engaged in horse riding would slow down the rate of GBV.

Mojaki also said they are very happy to work with Mots’eeo FC and believes this will bring back their passion and love for horse riding while appreciating women.

Stephenie Rodriguez, one of visitors from Australia said she’s on a mission to impact growing lives and to democratize safety and support for the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Rodriguez said her reason for visiting the country is to further the work that Mots’eeo FC has already started while enhancing safety collaboration.

“Today was a little bit about cultural understanding with one of the country’s proud possessions so we are able to experience the traditional culture that Lesotho is known for,” Rodriguez added.
