Civil servant leaks state secrets

MASERU – An employee of the Ministry of Law and Justice who allegedly leaked confidential government information to some people on social media platforms is expected to appear before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on December 18 to stand trial.

Thato Liphoto was on November 8 assigned to stand in for the executive secretary of the Deputy Attorney General, who was away. It is alleged that this is when Liphoto, 55, gained access to confidential government documents.

The documents, among others, contained information about the inauguration of ministers and their deputies.

Liphoto is said to have intentionally and without authority shared the information using WhatsApp with some people. She was released on free bail after appearing before the same magistrate on November 24.

Mom hands over son’s arms

LERIBE – A Kolonyama woman who found a plastic bag full of firearms and ammunition in her home on November 21 handed over the illegal arms to the police.

The arms included a.22mm pistol, three magazines of a 7.65mm pistol, one round of a 7.65mm pistol, and 20 rounds of a 6.35mm pistol.

The 63-year-old woman of Makhalong told the police that she suspected the arms belonged to her son, who lives with her.

Initiation school death probed

LERIBE – Pitseng police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man from Ha ’Mamanka who allegedly died at a local initiation school.

Although details of the death still remain sketchy, the deceased’s body was covered with several bruises when it was discovered.

The deceased was part of a group of young men who were attending an initiation school belonging to a 57-year-old resident of Phororong, Mokopung.

Police reports show that investigations into the murder are currently at an advanced stage. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
