MASERU – Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Secretary General, Mokhosi Mohapi, has been handed one of the most prestigious assignments in African football. He will serve as the Match Commissioner for the upcoming TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Super Cup final, a clash between two of Egypt’s football giants, Al Ahly and Zamalek. The highly anticipated showdown will take place on September 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This edition of the Super Cup, which is contested by the winners of the CAF Champions League , Al Ahly and the CAF Confederation Cup Zamalek promises to be a blockbuster.

With tickets selling out in less than 24 hours, the fervour surrounding the match has reached new heights. CAF confirmed that the rapid sale of tickets speaks volumes about the significance of the match and the intense rivalry between these two iconic clubs. Al Ahly and Zamalek have a storied history, with decades of competition and a legion of passionate fans fuelling their fierce encounters.

LeFA, in a statement, proudly announced Mohapi’s appointment, noting that it is a testament to his expertise and growing stature in African football. “The Lesotho Football Association Secretary General, Mr. Mokhosi Mohapi, has been assigned by CAF to oversee one of the biggest matches on the continent as the Match Commissioner when bitter rivals Al Ahly and Zamalek of Egypt go head-to-head in the CAF Super Cup,” the statement read.

Mohapi’s involvement in the Super Cup final is not only a personal achievement but also a significant moment for Lesotho’s football fraternity. He is the third LeFA official to earn a prestigious CAF appointment this year, following in the footsteps of Assistant Souru Phatšoane, who officiated the CAF Champions League final, and referee Nteboheleng Setoko, who took part in the CAF Women’s Champions League/COSAFA Qualifiers final.

This assignment further cements Mohapi’s influence within CAF, where he serves on the Club Licensing and Organising Committee, a key body that oversees the administration and structure of African club competitions. His growing responsibilities within the organisation highlight LeFA’s increasing role in continental football affairs.

As for the Super Cup, Al Ahly will be looking to make amends for last year’s disappointment after finishing as runners-up, while Zamalek will aim to capitalise on their strong form. The prize for this year’s winner is set at USD 500,000, a significant increase following CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s commitment to boosting financial rewards across all CAF competitions.

This move is part of an effort to ensure African clubs become more self-sustaining and competitive on the global stage. The TotalEnergies Super Cup is a prestigious event that continues to captivate football fans across the continent. Mohapi’s role as Match Commissioner is a proud moment for Lesotho and a clear indication of the growing recognition of local talent on the African stage.
