LCS warder suspected in aiding detainee escape

MASERU – A member of the Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) Ralekoti ‘West’ Mokhahlane was yesterday released from police custody following detention suspected of aiding and abetting the escape of two detainees.
In a phone call interview with Public Eye, Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, confirmed that indeed Mokhahlane had been detained since Tuesday and that he was released from the confines of the law yesterday (Thursday).
Mokhahlane was taken in for questioning regarding his alleged role in illegally aiding the escape of two suspects from the Maseru Central Correctional Institution.
The duo was nabbed and incarcerated in connection with the assassination of key witnesses in the murder investigation of local radio presenter Ralikonelo ‘Leqhashasha’ Joki.
The LCS spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Pheko Ntobane, confirmed the arrest of Mokhahlane by the police to this publication, indicating that as an institution the LCS handed the matter to the police.
“There are allegations that he did play a role in the escape of the of the detainees but I cannot confirm his whereabouts at the moment, we may seem to have a story but most of the questions can be answered by the police now, because we launched a case and everything is in their hands,” Ntobane said.
Mokhahlane was taken-in together with Resident Magistrate Peter Murenzi, who is alleged to have spent Tuesday and Wednesday at the police headquarters for questioning.
