Kings thump visiting SA baseballers

SEBONGILE MATHE
MASERU – Kings Softball Club triumphed over South African teams at the Lesotho Masters Tournament, a two-day event held on March 29 to 30 at Mabote Police grounds, organised by the Lesotho Baseball and Softball Association (LBSA) and Kings Softball club.
Valiants Softball and Flames Softball Clubs represented South Africa. However, it was Kings Softball Club that emerged victorious, winning the tournament after a strong 7-0 defeat of Flames in a key match.
LBSA PRO, Kamoho Fosa, stated that the tournament is set to be an annual event, expressing his delight at its success. He highlighted the impressive attendance, noting the presence of Botswana delegation for the inaugural tournament.
“The attendance,” he stated, “was beyond our expectation, we saw many softball legends and members of the current softball community in large numbers.”
Fosa attributed their success to hard work, dedication, and strong team spirit. He emphasized that this historic victory was not only a win for Kings Softball Club but a source of massive pride for the team and the entire nation.
He noted a single injury occurred on the first day of the tournament, involving a player from Kings Softball Club. He said the player received immediate medical attention and was transferred to a clinic. Remarkably, the same player was able to participate in the final game the following day.
Looking ahead, Fosa identified key areas for improvement in the future tournaments. He emphasized the need to enhance skills training for local officials and work towards improving their rankings.
Infrastructure upgrades, specifically completing the ongoing work on the playing fields, were also highlighted as crucial. Finally, he stressed the importance of securing additional sponsorships, inviting major sports stakeholders, and acquiring better equipment.
Fosa described the overall level of play as impressive and outstanding, praising the high standard of softball displayed throughout the tournament. He expressed a wish that all tournaments could achieve such a high level of success.
Kings Softball Club are the real hard workers. In 2024, they secured first place and a gold medal at the Masters Games in George, South Africa, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to excellence.
