MASERU – A new product from local powerhouse Bophelo Group is turning heads across the country offering Basotho not only dignified funeral coverage but also a guaranteed financial payout after five years.
Bophelo Group, offers a range of services including funeral cover, medical aid, casket sales, and investment plans, and just introduced Khomo-Kholo as a unique funeral cover plan that incorporates an investment component.
With each monthly premium paid, a portion is allocated toward a traditional funeral cover, while the remaining amount is invested.
This dual-purpose approach was inspired by the understanding that people need financial support in three distinct phases: the “Now” (present life), “Tomorrow” (post-mortem arrangements), and the “After” (long-term family support following the death of a breadwinner).
Unlike traditional funeral policies that disappear after payout, Khomo-Kholo gives families a return – helping build a financial cushion, save for the future or simply leave something behind for the next generation.
This investment portion is professionally managed, giving clients peace of mind that thier money is not just safe, but growing.
“This is how we close the wealth gap. This is how we stop the cycle of debt after death,” Bophelo Group CEO Chris Mokhethi added.
The name Khomo-Kholo, which references the cultural importance of the cow (khomo) in Basotho tradition burial, reflects the product’s deep-rooted significance.
It is tailored for working-class Basotho, youth, families, and anyone seeking more than just a funeral policy.
CEO Chris Mokhethi explained that Khomo-Kholo was created in response to common financial challenges faced by Basotho, such as the lack of savings, high funeral expenses, no returns on traditional insurance, and limited access to wealth-building tools.
Notably, this cover allows clients to make emergency claims within five years under the “Now” provision.
Additionally, Bophelo Group prides itself on offering dignified caskets – manufactured in-housemaking it the first funeral parlour in Lesotho to provide such a service.
The company also supports the emotional well-being of clients by offering free counseling sessions following the loss of a loved one.
Their powerful slogan, #KeMatla (“We are strong”), embodies their commitment to making a meaningful impact on clients’ lives.
In a bid to connect with the younger generation, Bophelo Group has appointed local artist Phoka ea Boroa as their brand ambassador.
