MASERU – The Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) president, Baba Malephane, handed over vital training equipment to Mabote Boxing Academy on June 17 at the LSRC offices in Maseru. The donation, coordinated by Lesotho Boxing Association president, Koloba Sehloho, addressed the academy’s shortage of essential gear for effective training. Sehloho praised Mabote’s dedication to nurturing young talent and expanding opportunities for boxers nationwide.
Malephane commended the initiative, stressing collaboration and unity in the boxing community.
“This is commendable work, and I trust the equipment will serve its purpose,” he said. He warned against divisiveness, urging stakeholders to prioritize collective progress over personal gain. “We must not let individual interests undermine youth development,” he added.
Highlighting sports’ economic potential, Malephane called for greater investment to tackle unemployment.
“Sports can create jobs. We must advocate for government support to harness this talent,” he stated.
Tšepo Mokotjo of Mabote Boxing Academy thanked the LSRC, reaffirming their mission to groom grassroots talent and empower future professional boxers.
The donation marks a significant boost for boxing in Lesotho, underscoring a shared commitment to youth development through sports.
