MASERU –
In a display of raw talent and tenacity, 19-year-old Thato Tlouoe of Lithoteng Ha Seleso conquered both the Under-23 and Elite men’s categories at the Alliance Française Tour de Maseru – a historic double victory cementing his status as one of Lesotho’s most promising cyclists.

For Tlouoe, the win transcended sport. “This wasn’t just professional success; it was a dream realized,” he shared, emotion palpable. “To win both categories? It’s beyond fulfilling.”

Remarkably, his strategy defied conventional wisdom. “The 20km distance is short, so I didn’t over train,” Tlouoe revealed.

“I focused purely on technique. That’s what made the difference.” His humility underscores a rare blend of instinct and skill.

The race tested every ounce of his resolve. Treacherous mud swallowed tires, his chain jammed repeatedly, and his left pedal malfunctioned – adding crippling weight and sapping power. As rivals closed in during the final stretch, Tlouoe dug deep.

“Others were gaining, but God carried me to the line,” he recalled.
Crossing the finish line unleashed a wave of disbelief.

“Happiness overwhelmed me. I’d beaten riders on far superior bikes – it was unreal,” he said.

Tlouoe’s eyes now turn to Clocolan’s 40km race on July 12. But beyond immediate goals, he dreams of elevating Lesotho’s cycling profile. His roots explain his passion: introduced to the sport at age five by his father, a professional cyclist, Tlouoe’s journey includes prior triumphs like the National U23 Mountain Bike Championship and earlier Alliance Française wins.

To aspiring youth, he offers practical inspiration: “Join cycling! It saves money, transforms travel, and builds health – all at once.”

Tlouoe’s double crown is a testament to perseverance, faith, and innate talent – a beacon for Lesotho’s sporting future.
