New squad for Bantu FC

SEBONGILE MATHE

MASERU- Bantu FC kicked off the new season with an outbreak of activity unveiling a fresh batch of players while acknowledging the contributions of departing veterans on Tuesday this week

The club’s Vice President, Leoesha Mahase, announced the arrival of 10 new players, bolstering the team’s roster in the wake of a less-than-stellar performance during the 2024/25 season.

Mahase introduced Chesetsi Halejoetsoe, Thabiso Posa, Motlomelo Mkhwanazi, Tumelo Ratsiu, Katiso Thamae, Lintle Chocholo, Motse Khiba, Tšepiso Rapotsane, Katleho Rapuleng, and Kananelo Rapuleng, all hailing from various local clubs.

“These players are set to complement the existing talent within the club,” Mahase stated.

However, the announcement also marked a significant chapter in the club’s history, as the team said farewell to several committed players.

Hlompho Kalake, a decade-long fixture at Bantu FC, bid farewell, along with Litšepe Marabe, whose career with the club spanned over a decade and involved periods of both playing and non-playing status.

Lindokuhle Phungulwa, a presence for eight years, and Tsoanelo Koetle (six years) also left.

The list continued with Jersey Matsie, Tsietsi Khooa, and Motiki Mohale.

“These players have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to Bantu FC,” Mahase acknowledged.

The newly appointed coach, Motheo Mohapi, echoed the sentiment of community pride.

“These new players are the soldiers of Mafeteng, the fans of Mafeteng,” he declared, demanding an unwavering commitment to their local community.

His words were stark: “I expect them to die for this community. They give me their bodies; I will give them my brain.”

Adding to the energy, Motlomelo Mkhwanazi, one of the new signings, emphasised the players promise to the community.

“We are dedicated to bringing back the joy and winning spirit to Mafeteng,” he stated.

“We are confident that together, we can deliver success for the entire community.”

Mohapi’s impassionate plea to the supporters was clear: “You are their strength, their hope.  Without you, they are nothing.”

The announcement of these new players and departures certainly suggests a significant shift in approach for Bantu FC.  The new players will carry the hopes and expectations of the community, while the veterans will be remembered for their loyalty and commitment.

Whether these changes will translate into a successful season remains to be seen, but the passion and ambition are palpable.
